How to Play

Blood on the Clocktower Rules

The Story

A long time ago in the sleepy town of Ravenswood Bluff, during a hellish thunderstorm, on the stroke of midnight... you hear a scream. Rushing to the Town Square to investigate, you find your beloved Storyteller has been murdered, impaled on the hour hand of the clocktower, blood dripping onto the cobblestones below.

You assume that this is the work of a Demon, and you are correct—a Demon that kills by night and takes on human form by day.

Objective

Good Team

Find and execute the Demon before it's too late. If the Demon dies, good wins!

Evil Team

Spread lies and confusion. If just 2 players remain alive, evil wins!

Game Flow

Night Phase

  • •All players close their eyes
  • •The Storyteller wakes certain players in order
  • •Players use their abilities or receive information
  • •The Demon chooses a player to kill
  • •Everyone opens their eyes at dawn

  • •The Storyteller announces who died at night
  • •Players discuss and share information
  • •Players may have private conversations
  • •Players nominate someone for execution
  • •Everyone votes on the nomination
  • •The player with the most votes (≥50% of alive players) is executed

Nominations & Voting

  • • A nomination succeeds if it gets ≥50% of alive players voting
  • • The player with the MOST votes is executed

Death

Death is not the end! Dead players:

  • • Still participate and can talk freely
  • • Still win or lose with their team
  • • Lose their character ability immediately
  • • Cannot nominate anyone
  • • May only vote once for the rest of the game

Drunk & Poisoned

Important:

If you are drunk or poisoned, you have no ability, but the Storyteller pretends that you do. You might receive false information and you will NOT know that you are drunk or poisoned!

Drunk

The Drunk drew a character token but is actually the Drunk Outsider. They think they are a Townsfolk but their ability doesn't work.

Poisoned

The Poisoner (a Minion) can poison one player each night. That player's ability doesn't work until the next dusk.

Four Simple Rules

1. Talk Freely

You may say whatever you want at any time. Public or private, it's up to you.

2. No Peeking

Keep your character secret. Don't look at the Grimoire or other players' tokens.

3. Ask Questions

Confused? Ask the Storyteller! They're neutral and here to help everyone have fun.

4. Play Nice

Be respectful. Kill with grace, die with dignity. It's all in good fun!
