Temporal Tycoon Rules

Everything you need to know to master time and fortune!

Game Overview

Temporal Tycoon is a board game where players move around a circular board, buying properties, trading tech stocks, and traveling through time to maximize their wealth.

The unique twist: property values and stock prices fluctuate based on which era you're in (Past, Present, or Future), and random events can send you backward or forward in time!

Board Spaces

Temporal Nexus (Start)

Starting space. Collect $200 every time you pass or land on it!

Property

Unowned: Buy it for the era-adjusted price

Owned by you: Nothing happens

Owned by another player: Pay rent (era-adjusted amount)

💡 Tip: Properties are cheaper in some eras, more expensive in others!

Tech Stock

Buy or sell shares of tech companies (Apple, Tesla, Meta, Microsoft, Quantum Computing)

💡 Tip: Buy stocks cheap in the Past, sell them high in the Future!

Time Portal

Automatically transports you to a different era:

  • Past: Properties and stocks are cheaper, some don't exist yet
  • Present: Standard prices
  • Future: Tech properties and stocks are much more valuable

Temporal Event

Draw an Event card. Effects include:

  • Move backward or forward on the board
  • Time travel to a different era
  • Gain or lose money
  • Special bonuses

⚠️ Watch out! Some events can send you backward!

Chance

Draw a Chance card with random effects similar to Event cards, but often more dramatic!

⚠️ Some Chance cards can send you backward multiple spaces!

Tax

Pay the specified tax amount to the bank (usually $150-$200)

Time Eras Explained

🕰️ PAST Era

  • Traditional properties (Shopping Malls, Industrial Complexes) are more valuable
  • Tech stocks are very cheap (some companies barely exist)
  • Space-age properties don't exist yet
  • Strategy: Buy tech stocks cheap!

⏰ PRESENT Era

  • All properties and stocks are at base prices
  • Balanced market conditions
  • Good for stable investments
  • Strategy: Standard gameplay, good time to sell past investments

🚀 FUTURE Era

  • Tech stocks are extremely valuable (up to 10x for Quantum Computing!)
  • Modern properties (Solar Farms, Space Stations) are at peak value
  • Old properties (Shopping Malls) lose value
  • Strategy: Sell tech stocks high, buy future-proof properties

💡 Pro Tip: Time portals and random events change the era for ALL players, so timing your investments is key! Buy low in one era, time travel to sell high in another!

Winning the Game

The game ends after a set number of rounds (configurable during setup).

Net Worth is calculated as:

Net Worth = Cash + Property Value + Stock Value

All values are calculated at current era prices.

🏆 The player with the highest net worth wins!

Strategy Tips

💡 Diversify: Own a mix of properties and stocks to hedge against era changes

💡 Time the Market: Buy tech stocks in the Past, sell in the Future

💡 Watch the Era: Property values fluctuate wildly - adapt your strategy

💡 Expect the Unexpected: Event cards can send you backward, plan accordingly

💡 Location Matters: Landing on owned properties costs rent - avoid them when low on cash

💡 Pass Go: Collect $200 when passing Temporal Nexus - plan your route

Special Rules & Notes

⚠️ Going Backward: Event and Chance cards can move you backward on the board. You do NOT collect $200 when passing Temporal Nexus backward!

⚠️ Era Changes: When the era changes, ALL property values and stock prices update immediately

⚠️ Bankruptcy: If you can't afford rent or taxes, you must sell properties/stocks. If you still can't pay, you're out!

⚠️ Property Ownership: You can only buy unowned properties. Landing on your own property is free.

⚠️ Stock Trading: You can only trade stocks when landing on a Stock space or during your turn
