⌨️ Type Race

Race against your friends to type the fastest!

How to play Type Race

Type Race measures how fast you can accurately type a passage, and lets up to eight people race the same text at once. Speed is reported in words per minute alongside accuracy, because the two only mean something together — a fast run riddled with errors is slower than a careful one once corrections are counted.

  1. Pick a difficulty and add racers

Choose the passage difficulty, then add everyone racing. One player can practise solo against their own previous times.

  2. Type the passage as it appears

The text is shown and the timer starts on your first keystroke. Characters are checked as you go, so mistakes are visible immediately rather than at the end.

  3. Watch WPM and accuracy update live

Words per minute is calculated on the standard definition of five characters per word, and accuracy tracks correct characters against total typed.

  4. Compare results

Finishing shows final WPM and accuracy for everyone in the race, so you can see whether the fastest typist was also the most accurate.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good typing speed?
Roughly 40 words per minute is average for an adult. 60-70 WPM is fast, and sustained speeds above 100 WPM are rare. Accuracy matters as much as raw speed.
How is WPM calculated?
By the standard convention of five characters per word, including spaces. That makes scores comparable across different passages regardless of word length.
Can you race against friends?
Yes. Up to eight players can race the same passage and compare final WPM and accuracy, or you can practise solo against your own times.
Does the test correct my mistakes?
Errors are flagged as you type rather than silently fixed, so your accuracy score reflects what you actually typed.
