How to play Word Games
A collection of twelve word games in one place, playable solo or with a group. It covers the classics — Hangman, Word Search, Word Scramble, Crossword — alongside creative ones like One Word Story and Fortunately/Unfortunately, where players build something together rather than competing.
Pick a game from the collection
Twelve games are available: Hangman, Word Search, Word Scramble, Crossword, Daily Word, Word Association, Word Bubble, Letter Grid, Words Within, Category Chain, One Word Story and Fortunately/Unfortunately.
Choose solo or group
Some are single-player puzzles you can play alone. Others are built for a group passing one device round. The collection lists which is which.
Play a short round
Most of these run 5-20 minutes, so they suit filling a gap rather than committing an evening.
Tips and strategy
- For Hangman, open with the vowels and then the common consonants — R, S, T, L and N appear in more words than anything else.
- In Word Search, scan for unusual letters first. A Q, X or Z in a grid narrows down where a word can possibly be.
- For Word Scramble, try moving vowels around rather than consonants. English words rarely stack three consonants at the start.
- One Word Story and Fortunately/Unfortunately are collaborative rather than competitive, which makes them good for groups with mixed ages.
- Category Chain rewards breadth over cleverness. The obvious answer nobody has said yet is worth more than a clever one that gets challenged.
